Fact Check: FIFTY FIFTY’s “Barbie Dreams” Plays During “Barbie” Movie

Over the weekend, Greta Gertwig‘s Barbie finally hit theaters after months of anticipation. Not only were viewers excited for the talent of Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling to be displayed…

…but also to hear how the movie’s soundtrack would be used in the film.

As K-Pop fans know, viral sensation group FIFTY FIFTY was announced as part of the soundtrack earlier this year following the massive success of “Cupid.”

Unfortunately, the group had a fallout with their label, ATTRAKT, which led to an ongoing legal battle as the group sought to suspend their contracts. Amid this, it was reported that their music video for “Barbie Dreams (feat. Kaliii)” was canceled.

While the music video was canceled, fans were hopeful they would at least hear the track played during the movie as it was used in Barbie content even after the cancelation.

While many of the other tracks, like “Barbie World (with Aqua)” by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice and “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish, were listed during the film’s credits, “Barbie Dreams” was not.

This means that the song is not played throughout the movie, which was confirmed by fans’ reactions after watching the film. Many non-K-Pop fans also commented on the lack of the song as well.

While there has been controversy surrounding the group, their not being included may partially be because their track was announced so close to the movie’s release.

Luckily for group fans, FIFTY FIFTY will still get some Barbie magic — the repress of the special edition vinyl soundtrack now includes “Barbie Dreams.”
