“Keep K-Pop Korean”: LE SSERAFIM’s Instagram Flooded With Racist Comments

While many fans are excited about the new merchandise, as it is giving a sleek and expensive name brand, the comment section on Instagram contains many mixed reactions due to the official photoshoot. Unfortunately, many comments were straight-up racist.

Rather than use the members to model the pieces, three models were hired. One model is a Black woman who is undoubtedly stunning. She is prominently featured on the K-Pop group’s feed in two posts.

LE SSERAFIM fans were initially shocked to see the model’s dark skin, though. As a faceless photo of the model was the first photo posted, netizens worried that a LE SSERAFIM had committed Blackface, not expecting to see a non-member featured on their feed. Previously, netizens accused Huh Yunjin of cultural appropriation for wearing a bandana that some deemed styled like a durag.

Those weren’t the racist comments in question, though. Some netizens expressed straight-up disgust at the sight of a non-Asian person on LE SSERAFIM’s Instagram. They commented, “Keep K-Pop Korean,” vomiting emojis, “jumpscare,” and racist slurs toward Black people.

On the other hand, Black fans were so excited to see the diverse models as they felt represented. It felt significant as it is currently Black History Month. So, it was incredibly disheartening to go from feeling joy to seeing such blatant racism in the comment section.

The LE SSERAFIM models did an amazing job and deserve all their success!
