As the lead actors from Squid Game rise in popularity following the show’s success, their earnings are rising just as much. Now, a new report has revealed just how much they make from Instagram alone.
Few Korean stars have risen to super-stardom as quickly as Jung Ho Yeon did following the release of Squid Game. In her first-ever acting role as Kang Sae Byeok, model Jung had just 400,000 Instagram followers when the show premiered on Netflix last month. Within days, that number had risen to 1.4 million—and this week, she surpassed a staggering 17 million followers.
Her current follower count makes her the most-followed non-idol actress on Instagram right now, surpassing Dr. Romantic 2 and Cheese in the Trap star Lee Sung Kyung (who currently has 13 million followers). But what does that mean for her earnings as an influencer?
These days, influencer marketing is one of the most popular promotional tactics companies use, with brands paying stars shocking amounts of money just to post their products on Instagram. Naturally, the more followers a celebrity has, the more they can earn from these Instagram posts.
To find out just how much the Squid Game actors are making as influencers, CBD brand Area52 commissioned research from Influencer Marketing Hub—and the figures they found are pretty high. According to the platform, Jung Ho Yeon is the highest-paid Squid Game influencer, earning up to a staggering £31,500 GBP (around $43,000 USD) for every advertisement she posts on social media.
Over this past week alone, that means Jung Ho Yeon may have made up to $86,000 USD with just two sponsored posts.
The Front Man, Lee Byung Hun, meanwhile, earns upwards of £1,500 GBP (around $2,000 USD) per post.
The rest of the top four earners, Lee You Mi (who played Ji Yeon) and Heo Sung Tae (Jang Deok Su) are somewhere in the middle, also getting paid thousands of dollars for Instagram posts.
With earnings like that from social media alone, we can only imagine how much they’re getting paid in their careers.
