BTS’s Jin Explains Why The Group’s New Album Is Called “BE”
본문
Since BTS announced their upcoming album would be called BE, fan theories began circulating on the November release’s title meaning. Now, in a new interview with Rolling Stone, Jin has revealed what it truly represents.
Some fans believed BE‘s title could be an extension of the Love Yourself series. The trilogy was made up of mini album Love Yourself: Her, full album Love Yourself: Tear, and repackage Love Yourself: Answer. It was later followed by Japanese album Face Yourself, and the Speak Yourself world tour. Naturally, “BE Yourself” would be the perfect conclusion.

Others thought the title’s capitalization may indicate that BE is an acronym. Some of the most popular suggestions of what it could represent included BTS-Esque, Be Eternal, and Beginning to End.

However, while all these theories may be added Easter eggs, the real album title meaning is far simpler. In a new interview with Rolling Stone, Jin revealed that BE represents the state of “being“.
The album title BE represents “being”.

Elaborating on the meaning, Jin explained that the BE album was created to be like “a page in [BTS’s] diary” during the current COVID-19 pandemic era. BTS previously hinted at the name of the album’s title track, “Life Goes On”, when they were invited to deliver an inspiring message to those affected by the pandemic at the 75th United Nations General Assembly.

Jin went on to say that BE “captures the honest thoughts and emotions” from the members this year. In their UN General Assembly speech, BTS revealed that they felt “hopeless” and “lonely” when the pandemic stopped them from meeting with fans.
To reflect the theme, Jin says that BE includes several “chill and laid-back songs” that should appeal to all ARMYs and bring them comfort in a trying time. He also shared his hopes that the album will help the group grow too.
I think this album will give us an opportunity to grow further as artists who can represent the current times through music.
