Megan Thee Stallion’s feature on BTS‘s “Butter” remix was an undeniable hit, helping the track rise back up to no.1 again on the Billboard Hot 100 last week. However, releasing the remix didn’t come easily for the American rapper. In a new interview with Evening Standard, Megan opened up about why she fought so hard to drop her version of the song.

Late last month, TMZ broke the news that Megan Thee Stallion was set to appear as a featuring artist on a new remix of BTS’s hit summer song, “Butter.” However, they also revealed that her label—1501 Certified Entertainment—was doing everything it could to prevent her from releasing it.

Thankfully, it wasn’t long before a judge granted Megan permission to release her “Butter” remix as schedules. According to her legal petition, BTS’s own legal team was a big help in the process. That said, Megan still had a lot of work to do herself in preparing the petition and pushing her label for freedom—but why was she so determined to release the remix despite pushback?

In a new interview with Julie Adenuga, Megan stated, “I’m always going to fight for myself. I’m always going to stand up for myself.” She then explained that her label had no legitimate reason to prevent her from releasing her “Butter” remix. Instead, she was told, “Oh, we don’t like the song, since you’re not putting it out.”

Naturally, Megan Thee Stallion responded to 1501 Certified Entertainment blocking the release with incredulity. “Since when has anybody ever been able to do that in the history of ever?” she thought at the time, “That doesn’t even make any sense.

Megan went on to cement her place as an ARMY, confessing more about how she felt when her label fought against her. “I want to do a song with BTS. I’m a fan,” she recalled, “How are y’all just going to randomly crush my dreams?

I’m like, ‘Oh hell no. I prayed on this, I manifested this and I’m not going to let anything get in the way of it.’

And on top of striving to release the “Butter” remix as a fan herself, she also wanted to do it for her own fans. Megan explained that this would be her first time getting to “touch international Hotties,” referring to her fandom name, adding that it was also, “a new opportunity to spread the positivity that I want to spread in the world.

As such, Megan Thee Stallion wasn’t about to back down—and thank goodness she didn’t. After a troublesome legal battle, the “Butter” remix turned out to be a certified bop, just as fans expected. In turn, the song spawned another week at number one for BTS and a $100,000 charity project in BTS and Megan’s names. All in all, fans are glad Megan fought to get what she deserved.

I did everything I could do to get it out and now that it’s out we all feel such a relief and we feel so happy.

— Megan Thee Stallion
