6 K-Dramas That Are Exclusive To Netflix And How Well They Did
본문
Ever since Netflix broke into the Korean market, they’ve been vying for a slice of the K-Drama pie. As Korean titles are often highly viewed globally, Netflix has been actively investing in the production of many titles. Here are 5 titles that Netflix gave a high budget to recently, and how well they did.
1. “D.P”
The latest on the list, D.P launched exclusively on Netflix just recently, so while numbers are not publicly available at the moment, the drama ranked first place on the streaming service the moment it came out.
2. “Sweet Home”
Another one of Netflix’s exclusive ventures, the hit thriller-slash-gore was a huge hit internationally. It also catapulted Song Kang to fame. It became the first K-Drama series to enter Netflix’s Top 10 in the US, ranking Top 10 in 42 regions days after release. It was viewed by 22 million subscribers globally within the month.
3. “Squid Game”
Hold your horses on this one for it only launches September 17, 2021. The premise sounds a little like “Liar Game”, with contestants competing in a death-threatening contest for 40 million USD. Park Hae Soo and Lee Jung Jae headline the show and it is already highly anticipated.
4. “The School Nurse Files”
We see the stellar pairing of Nam Joo Hyuk and Jung Yu Mi in a school drama with a fantasy twist. Jung Yu Mi plays a school nurse that can see human feelings, desires and fantasies in the form of “jellies” which can sometimes be dangerous. The muted color palate gives off a melancholic vibe. Unfortunately, it only received a 6.5/10 rating on iMdb.
5. “Extracurricular”
The show, about high school students with a dark undertone, managed to become the 9th most watched Netflix series during its month of launch. The show was fuelled by the interesting premise of high schoolers involved in a dangerous side hustle.
6. “Kingdom”
Kingdom quickly became one of Netflix’s most acclaimed series and it is also Netflix’s first Korean original. The drama, about zombies in the Joseon dynasty, even received a rare 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
