Twitter Releases Most Used Hashtags For The First Half Of 2021, And Most Of Them Are Related To K-Pop

Twitter is celebrating Hashtag Day on August 23, releasing the top 10 most popular hashtags for the first half of the year, and it’s no surprise that many of them are related to K-Pop!

To commemorate the day when the hashtag was created, Twitter released the ranking of the most used hashtags in the world from January to June this year. Since stan Twitter basically rules the app, most of the hashtags were related to K-Pop, especially BTS. According to Twitter, K-Pop-related keywords accounted for at least 5 of the 10 most used hashtags worldwide.

Twitter revealed that the second most used hashtag in the world was “#BTS,” which was used 150 million times. ‘#BTSArmy,’ which refers to the fandom of BTS, and the hit song “#Dynamite” were ranked 6th and 10th, respectively.

While just three of the top 10 hashtags are officially considered related to BTS, ARMY knows that they contributed greatly even more to the list. As an example, in addition to “#BTSArmy,” there is also “#BestFanArmy” at No. 4. Even No. 9 “BestMusicVideo” is related to not just BTS but specifically the 10th hashtag “#Dynamite.”

All of this is connected to the most used hashtag being ‘#iHeartAwards,” the awards ceremony hosted by the American online radio broadcaster iHeartRadio. ARMY contributed to all of these hashtags by voting for BTS’s “Dynamite” MV for “Best Music Video” and the fandom for “Best Fan Army” for the 2021 iHeartRadio Music Awards.
In addition to BTS, other K-Pop boy groups were included in the list. SM Entertainment‘s “#EXO” and BigHit Music‘s “#Enhypen” were in 7th and 8th, respectively.

Naver has reported that a total of 7 million hashtags were used in Korea. South Korea’s hashtag usage is the sixth-largest in the world behind Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, India, and Canada.
For specific countries, such as India and the Philippines, BTS-related hashtags appear at least once. For The Philippines, BTS’s McDonald’s collaboration “#btsmeal” is ranked at No. 4.

In India, “#bts” is No. 8 on the list. The hashtag for iHeartRadio Music Awards is also on the list at No. 6.
