It was recently reported that there would be a “K-Pop movie” produced by CJ ENM as part of a collaboration between Lynda Obst, the producer of Interstellar and Hope Floats, and Miky Lee, the executive producer of Parasite. Succesful Korean director JK Youn, the director of the hit film Haeundae in 2009 and melodrama Ode To My Father in 2014, has been hired to direct.

The movie is entitled K-Pop: Lost In America and has been described as a “road movie” as it revolves around a boy group that flies to the U.S. to debut in New York. However, they mistakenly land in Texas and must make their way to New York with limited time and money on their hands.

We expect a fresh film that reflects the world’s high interest in K-pop and Hallyu content and the trend of multiculturalism… As it is an ambitious global project, we will do our best to make a high-quality film that meets audience’s expectations.

Obst has also helped bring to life many beloved Hollywood films besides Interstellar. She also produced How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and One Fine Day and executive produced Sleepless in Seattle. The reason why she wants to produce K-Pop: Lost in America? It’s simple… She’s a K-Pop fan herself, and she describes the film as a “passion project.”

Lee has high expectations for the film as she believes that the large K-Pop fanbase will be eager to support it.

K-Pop and K-culture have never been more in-demand. Combining CJ ENM’s globally recognized production capabilities with the brilliant minds of smash-hit creators Lynda Obst and JK Youn, we have no doubt that we will be able to showcase a very special movie that will appeal to a global audience and K-Pop fans alike.

To guarantee its success, they even plan to cast K-Pop idols in the lead roles.

So it has many of us wondering who might they consider. Paper Magazine has some ideas…

The New York City-based independent magazine shared their article, reporting the news of the film’s production. Yet, they added a caption, including their personal recommendation. They suggested that BTS’s Jimin should star!

We definitely think this might be a good idea! Fans have been wishing for Jimin to be cast in the leading role of a feature Hollywood film for years now due to his princely features. Ever since Disney‘s live-action Little Mermaid was announced, he was fans’ dream casting. Over 50 news outlets in at least 15 countries, including CNN, MTV, Radio Disney, and METRO, reported about it.

BTS’s Jimin is being floated as the perfect person to play Prince Eric because a) he’s a prince of K-pop and b) y’know, he has the hair and the jawline.

While, unfortunately, Disney didn’t take this recommendation seriously, hopefully, CJ ENM will consider Jimin or at least one of the seven BTS members for their film. Jin is more than qualified for a lead role (he went to university for it), and V has K-Drama experience.

Since the film is about an entire boy group, it would be interesting to see who all they cast. Perhaps, they could cast someone from various IRL boy groups to make up the fictional group? ASTRO‘s Cha Eunwoo; GOT7‘s Jinyoung and YoungjaeATEEZ‘s Yunho, Seonghwa, Jongho, and San; SF9‘s Chani and Hwiyoung all have recent acting experience… And, this is just to name a few because many idol members are so multitalented.

Who would you like to see cast in the film?

K-Pop: Lost In America is planned to release in 2023.
