Last week, BTS was named the 2020 Global Recording Artist of the Year by the IFPI (the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry). With combined sales and streams from MAP OF THE SOUL: 7 and BE, BTS took the top spot on the “Global Artist Chart”, becoming the first Asian and non-English singing artist to do so.
Now, BTS has added another unprecedented IFPI chart achievement to their list: No.1 on the “Global Album Sales Chart”. This chart combines the global sales of physical and digital album downloads in order to rank the top albums of 2020. MAP OF THE SOUL: 7 took the top spot, followed by BE at No.2 and MAP OF THE SOUL: 7 ~ The Journey at No.8.
Congratulations again to @BTS_twt, the winners of this year's #IFPIGlobalAlbumSalesChart!

This is the first time in history that an artist has had two albums topping the IFPI chart, and it is the first time since 2009 that an artist has had three albums on the chart. The last artist to achieve this was the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, in 2009.

Sadly, Michael Jackson passed away four years before BTS’s debut, but Taj Jackson reached out to the group on Twitter. He told them that his uncle would have been, “the first artist to call you up and congratulate you personally.”
Well done @BTS_twt
You guys deserve it.
Michael Jackson would have been the first artist to call you up and congratulate you personally. Keep lighting it up
