The Reason TWICE’s Nayeon And Jihyo Unknowingly Terrified Momo When She Was A Trainee

TWICE‘s Momo and Nayeon have been K-Pop idols for almost a decade by now, but they can still vividly remember experiences they had before their debut. Many things happened that they’ll never forget.

In a recent video with Nayeon, Momo shared a story from their trainee days. She revealed that Nayeon was the very picture of a trainee that she had imagined. Everything from her clothes to the bag she carried was as she expected.

• Momo: When we debuted, we weren’t this close. Since when? Unnie, you were the image of a trainee that I had in mind.
• Nayeon: I heard that often.
• Momo: Yeah. Unnie carried a backpack often. You wore leggings that fit snuggly, socks up to here, sneakers and a kind of sweatshirt.

The thought reminded Momo of one specific situation that terrified her—monthly evaluations. But in her case, it was especially scary because she was teamed up with Nayeon and leader Jihyo, two trainees who were already expected to make their debut.

• Momo: But come to think of it, we did the monthly evaluations together quite a few times. At that time, we weren’t even close, how did we end up performing together? Haven’t I talked about this before? When we first entered as trainees, unnie, Jihyo, and I were in a team for monthly evaluations.
• Nayeon: Yeah, Single Ladies.
• Momo: I was scared in that situation.
• Nayeon: Really?
• Momo: Yeah, because the team was already formed there.

Thankfully, Nayeon guided her throughout the process, cheering her on and assuring her they’ll do it together. As someone who had just moved to Korea and didn’t speak the language, Nayeon’s words and presence were a great comfort her.

But unnie was really good to me. I was uncomfortable, but somehow, she led me, saying, “Let’s do it together.” I couldn’t speak Korean at all back then. I had just arrived in Korea, so I couldn’t speak Korean at all.
