“I Didn’t Get Obvious Support Like Eunhyuk”—Super Junior Member Exposes The Reality Of Being Less Popular

Super Junior‘s Heechul, Leeteuk, Eunhyuk, and Yesung recently appeared on the talk show Radio Star. The latter opened up about a variety of topics including the lack of opportunities that he had for most of his career.

Super Junior’s YesungThe group debuted in 2005 under SM Entertainment. After almost two decades in the company, several members left in July 2023 and branched out to different agencies, specifically Eunhyuk, Donghae, and Kyuhyun. Though they are now in other companies, they are still considered members of Super Junior. At the same time, this meant that SM Entertainment was no longer in charge of their individual activities. Yesung opened up about the benefits that this schism had on him. Being completely honest, he stated that SM Entertainment focused most of their time and effort on the sub-unit Super Junior D&E (Donghae and Eunhyuk) as well as Kyuhyun’s solo music.

I could do the things I hadn’t been able to after 18 years of my debut. Before that, we had D&E and Kyuhyun actively releasing new music.

With these three gone, the company was finally giving Yesung attention. He was happy that he now had the opportunity to prove himself as an artist.

This feeling of being supported in his solo career was a first in his 18 years signed to his agency. He even confirmed while pointing at Eunhyuk that he “didn’t get obvious support” like him.

Host: You got more chances after some members left?

Yesung: To be honest, yes. I didn’t get obvious support like [Eunhyuk] did.

Yesung released his fourth album Beautiful Night on May 3, 2021. Last October 2022, he and MAMAMOO member Solar sang the song “After Love” from the “Casting in the Corner” project.
