When Deadline first reported that Lee Jung Jae had been confirmed to join Disney+‘s upcoming Star Wars series, The Acolyte, as the male lead,

Going farther back in time than any live-action ‘Star Wars’ title before it, ‘The Acolyte’ is set a century before the events of ‘Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace.’ The series promises to depict the galaxy at the peak of the era of the High Republic, when the Jedi were at their strongest and the Sith were believed to have been eradicated from the galaxy.

The series is reportedly heavily inspired by Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The High Republic, a series of content, such as comic books, web series, novels, and audio dramas, initially launched in 2021.

‘We’re taking a look at the political and personal and spiritual things that came up in a time period that we don’t know much about. My question when watching ‘The Phantom Menace’ was always like, ‘Well, how did things get to this point?’ How did we get to a point where a Sith lord can infiltrate the Senate and none of the Jedi pick up on it? Like, what went wrong? What are the scenarios that led us to this moment?

While The Acolyte was initially expected to be released in the summer of 2023, it is confirmed to be released one year later: June 2024. A first look in the form of an official trailer has been released, showing Lee Jung Jae in all his glory.

Jedi Master is a term of respect used by beings who respect the Jedi. Masters are regarded as among the most accomplished and recognized polymaths in the Star Wars galaxy; generally, they have resigned from wanderlust ways of knighthood and instead apply their acquired years of wisdom and experience to meditative, administrative and educational pursuits. Upon completion of vocational or postgraduate education, a Jedi Knight becomes a Jedi Master after successfully training several Padawan learners to Knight status, such as when Obi-Wan Kenobi became a Jedi Master after he successfully trained Anakin Skywalker to the point where he was able to complete the trials and become a Jedi Knight.

In the beginning, we’re introduced to Lee Jung Jae’s character, Sol, who is a Jedi master teaching young padawans.

An Initiate who successfully completes “fundamental training” is given a second-class education and then undergoes Padawan training under the tutelage of a Mentor (usually a Jedi Knight or Jedi Master). They are also called “Apprentices” and “Padawan learners”. In the Old Republic, Padawans usually wore a hair braid or a bead string (for species without hair) on the right side of their head which was severed with a lightsaber by the Jedi Grand Master upon attaining knighthood. They also served as Commanders in the Clone Wars.

Despite a phenomenal all-star cast, Lee Jung Jae’s Sol appears to be what holds the show together, as he appears in nearly every scene of the trailer.

And it wouldn’t be Star Wars without lightsabers. So, we see Sol wield a blue one at the end.
