The past couple of days have been a whirlwind for RIIZE‘s members and their fans, with various controversies gaining attention regarding different members of the group. Between Seunghan‘s continuing hiatus, Anton‘s rumored girlfriend, and an alleged ex-girlfriend of Eunseok having connections to the controversial Han Seo Hee, it seems like the group can’t get a break from being in the news for less-than-ideal reasons.
RIIZE | SM EntertainmentAnd now, yet another controversy has been making waves in the K-Pop community regarding Anton and an alleged secret Instagram account that’s under fire for being insulting to Koreans.
Anton (RIIZE) | WeverseAccording to the rumors, the Instagram account with the name “ilovesamsungsomuch” apparently belonged to Anton before recently being deleted. It was apparently connected to him due to known friends of his following the account.
The username, according to some who discovered this account, is seen as an insult made by foreign-born Asians to Korean citizens by belittling the well-known Korean brand Samsung. Since Anton was born and raised in America, some people think he’s “smearing Koreans’ image while living abroad” and, by being an idol in the K-Pop industry, is insulting the country he’s currently profiting from.
Translation: FYI, “I love Samsung so much” is what foreign-born Asians say to make fun of Koreans.
With the rumors that Anton has been getting caught up in, the controversial history of his father, singer and producer Yoon Sang, has also been getting attention. When he was in his 20s, Yoon Sang was investigated by the Military Manpower Association for an alleged attempt to avoid military enlistment by getting an Argentinian citizenship. After the police threatened to place his name on Interpol, however, he revoked his Argentinian citizenship and enlisted in the military in 1993.
Trying to avoid military enlistment is an issue taken extremely seriously in South Korea, so this ordeal gave Yoon Sang a negative reputation despite his eventual enlistment.
International K-Pop fans have been reacting to this news with a general feeling of fatigue and exasperation, wondering how RIIZE fans are able to handle all of the scandals that seem to be revolving around the group lately.
SM Entertainment has not yet released a statement regarding this latest controversy.
