Former “Sexy Concept” Group Member Makes A Big Change For Her Solo Release

Many former idols eventually return to music, though not always in the same way.

For example, a former member of AOA, Choa, is active on YouTube as a vlogger, sharing musical covers as well.

Now, an ex-member of a girl group known for their sexy concepts has released her solo album with a very different theme.

In 2010, 9Muses (or NineMuses) debuted with the track “No Playboy.” The group’s nine members were marketed as “model dolls,” and their concepts were often sexy.

While there is nothing wrong with sexy concepts, some members would later admit they were uncomfortable with them, like debut member Ryu Sera.

Sera remained in the group until 2014 before being removed and embarking on a solo career. She established her own label, OCTO, in 2018 for her activities.

Many are likely familiar with Sera as she is active on YouTube primarily as a K-Pop reactor under the name Ryu Sera, reacting for a very sweet reason.

In a 2021 interview, Sera admitted the group’s sexy concepts caused her a lot of stress and made her question her own beauty.

We had to wear revealing outfits and show off our sex appeal. I expressed all my frustration because I was young.

Sera recently released her first single album of a genre that many did not expect — Christian!

The album is titled Here And Now, and she has released track videos for “One Thing” and “El Shaddai.”

This is not her first release as a solo artist, but her first Christian album.  Fans praised the singer’s beautiful vocals, sharing their feelings on the tracks even as non-Christians.
