Japanese Man Accidentally Blows Up His Own Home

The seemingly insignificant actions of a Japanese man almost cost him his life.
On December 16 at around midnight, a cockroach invaded the home of a 54-year old man from Kumamoto, Japan. He immediately found a can of insecticide and sprayed a large amount on the insect.
An explosion took place roughly a minute afterwards. The Kumamoto Higashi Police Station noted that it broke the man’s balcony and left him with several injuries, though they were thankfully minor. A burn spot was also found on the table nearby.
The exact cause of the 54-year old man’s explosion was not revealed by the police, however, this is not the first time this happened. The National Consumer Affairs Center of Japan received similar reports of explosions happening around the nation with the common denominator being insecticides. These oftentimes contain alcohol and other flammable ingredients inside the bottle, causing explosions when they come in contact with electrical outlets.
Citizens are now being urged to avoid using insecticide spray near heat near a fire. They should also be ready to ventilate the room after spraying indoors or in a car.
