Second-Generation Male Idol Gets Accused Of Tax Evasion

Park Yoo Chun, a former member of TVXQ and JYJ, has been embroiled in a new controversy.

According to reports on December 14 by the National Tax Service, Park is among 31 high-earning individuals who have been dodging their tax responsibilities. The organization published a list compiling the names of 31 individuals who have habitually evaded taxes and 41 dishonest charitable organizations.

The Nation Tax Service data stated that Park has evaded multiple categories of taxes, including capital gains tax, since 2016, which has added up to an amount of ₩490 million KRW (about $380,000 USD).

This, however, is not the first time Park Yoo Chun has found himself amidst a scandal. In 2016, the idol faced multiple accusations of sexual assault. The allegations gained a lot of public attention, but the charges didn’t stick, and Park was cleared.

The scandal damaged his public image significantly. But soon, it was followed by another controversy. In 2017, Park suddenly announced his marriage right before his military discharge. However, the marriage never happened. Instead, he found himself accused of drug abuse.

Park sternly stood his ground and declared his innocence to the public in 2019. But he was eventually found guilty of violating drug control laws and sentenced to two years of suspended prison term, probation, rehabilitation, and a fine of ₩1.40 million KRW (about $1,090 USD).

These back-to-back controversies have taken a toll on Park’s career, which he tried to revive after the drug abuse case. He had established a new management agency in partnership with a long-time manager. However, the company got into a dispute with him, leading to all content related to Park being removed.

Given the situation of his agency, it is unsure if the tax evasion accusations will be met with any official response.
