These Are The Only 7 K-Pop Artists Who Have Songs Certified For Streaming In Japan

The Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) is a company involved with the Japanese music industry. Similar to South Korea’s Gaon, their activities include promoting music sales, collecting data from the industry, and giving out certifications for reaching certain achievements.

One of the certifications that they award to songs is a streaming certification for a single reaching a certain amount of streams in Japan. This is their newest category, started in April 2020, and there are four levels to it: Silver (for reaching 30 million streams), gold (for reaching 50 million streams), platinum (for reaching 100 million streams), and diamond (for reaching 500 million streams).

So far, only 7 South Korea-based artists have earned these certifications for at least one of their songs. Here are all of them, in order of how many they’ve received!

7. MAMAMOO

MAMAMOO has one song that has been certified silver by RIAJ for streaming: Their iconic “Hip”, released in 2019 on their Reality in Black album. It also peaked at #39 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart.

6. BIGBANG

BIGBANG also has one song that has been certified by RIAJ for streaming, reaching silver certification: “BANG BANG BANG” off of their MADE album, released in 2015. It also peaked at #2 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart.

5. Kang Jiyoung

Finally, Kang Jiyoung also has one song that has been platinum certified for streaming: “Suki na Hito ga Iru Koto”, off of former KARA member’s Many Faces album, which was released in 2016. It also reached a peak position of #3 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart, and #5 on the Oricon Singles chart.

4. NiziU

NiziU, though a Japanese group, is under JYP Entertainment, and has released both Japanese and Korean songs. They’ve had four songs be certified by RIAJ.

Three with silver certifications:

“Baby I’m a Star” (Also reached #14 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart)

“Step and a Step” (Also reached #1 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart, #3 on the Oricon Digital Singles chart, and #1 on the Oricon Physical Singles chart)

“Boom Boom Boom” (Also reached #15 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart)

One with a platinum certification:

“Make You Happy” (Also reached #2 on the Billboard Japan Hot 100 chart, and #1 on the Oricon Digital Singles chart)

3. BLACKPINK

BLACKPINK has had five songs earn a certification from RIAJ! All of the following have been certified silver in streaming:

BTS is the Korean boy group with the most songs certified by RIAJ, with nine total!
