On October 7, 2023, the Minister of National Defence, Shin Won Sik, stated that a BTS member and an announcer were originally slated to MC for a military event. Later, he found it to be of a positive influence for the public to see that a BTS member was diligently participating in his military duties like other regular soldiers. Hence, it was later ordered that all celebrities should not be doing things apart from their duties as soldiers. This measure was supported by other politicians and cabinet members. Politician Lee Yong Ho agreed that the military should not be making use of celebrities who are undergoing their service like ordinary men.
With this new rule in place, it will now be hard for fans to see their idols who have enlisted in the military. Despite this, it is a positive measure that helps make sure that the country would not be able to make use of celebrities’ influence through military enlistment.
