“Dream Academy” Eliminates Two Contestants After A Shocking Rank Drop

On August 29, the latest idol survival show, The Debut: Dream Academy (also known as Dream Academy), introduced its 20 contestants. A joint venture by HYBE and GEFFEN Records, viewers were thrilled to meet the diverse line-up competing for a chance to debut in an international girl group.

As fans learned as much as they could about each contestant, like their personal Instagram accounts, many were surprised to learn Dream Academy would function differently than any other show.

Instead of weekly episodes with additional content shared on social media between the episodes, the trainees would be showcasing their talents entirely online.

Viewers were invited to learn more about each contestant through short clips shared on TikTok.

Dream Academy is set to run for twelve weeks, with viewers able to vote for their favorite six contestants once a day over four days on Weverse and by liking an individual’s solo fan cam on YouTube.

At the halfway point of voting, the girls ranked in the lowest two spots were 17-year-old Brooklyn from the United States and 19-year-old Adela from Slovakia.

September 15 saw the first official ranking be shared. The three panelists — Prisent of HxG Mitra Darab, Executive Creator of H&G Sungdeuk Son, and Interscope VP of A&R and Marketing Charlie Christie — gave the groups feedback on their performances.

Contestants Nayoung, Sophia, Samara, Manon, Lara, and Yoonchae were named the top six and given immunity from elimination.

Ultimately, the first trainees to be eliminated from the show were Adela and Hinari. Hinari was previously ranked fourteenth in the half-time voting results.

The remaining contestants will be shown traveling to Korea to learn and experience the K-Pop training system and meet other HYBE Labels artists.
