A 2nd Generation K-Pop Idol Recalls Becoming A Daesang Winner Without Realizing It

Each year, K-Pop idols attend year-end award ceremonies, celebrating their accomplishments for the year.

Every artist hopes to be the recipient of the grand prize or Daesang each year, which is a highly coveted and prestigious award and considered one of the highest achievements an artist can receive domestically. It can be an emotional moment for those who have the honor of receiving it.

Recently, second-generation idol group member, former SISTAR‘s Soyou, opened up to soloist Eric Nam about her experience promoting with the group and whether she had any regrets about her idol career.

The talented singer didn’t have any regrets about her time actively promoting with SISTAR and shared that she felt everything went well.

She noted, however, that despite the group’s popularity and status as K-Pop’s “Summer Queens,” they never received a Daesang.

The closest they came to reaching the achievement was in 2013 when they received 2nd place for “Alone” and 4th place for “Loving U,” while PSY‘s massive global hit, “Gangnam Style,” received 1st place.

While the group hadn’t achieved the prestigious feat together, Soyou had for her popular collaboration track “Some” with Junggigo in 2014.

While recalling the moment she received the grand prize award, Soyou surprisingly revealed that she wasn’t aware it was the award she was accepting.

Soyou shared that the venue for the award ceremony was so loud that she mistakenly thought she was receiving a main award or Bonsang.

After she gave her speech and walked offstage, the realization that she and Junggigo had earned a grand prize hit her, and the excitement overcame them both.

Soyou shared that she would have cried if she had known she was receiving the grand prize while giving her speech.

The former SISTAR member concluded that she coolly said thank you during her speech but shouted with joy when she left the stage.
