A Man Wears A Wig And Secretly Films Women Using The Bathroom In Korea

A man in his 20s who wore a wig secretly entered women’s restrooms and illegally filmed dozens of women’s bodies.

On August 27, Judge Lee Gwang Heon of Gwangju District Court’s Criminal Division 4 announced that the 26-year-old assailant, referred to as A, was sentenced to two years and six months in prison. A was indicted on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes for filming using a camera and intrusion into multi-purpose facilities with sexual intentions.

A was accused of illegally filming women in the Gwangju area from November of last year to March of this year. After secretly entering women’s restrooms in hospitals, libraries, cafes, and other places, A filmed them using the bathroom.

It was reported that he wore a hat with a long wig attached and a mask to disguise himself as a woman, then he secretly filmed people in the stalls next to him in the women’s restroom. A committed these crimes against women in their 20s and 30s. While the identities of 33 victims are not confirmed, he will also be penalized for the harm they endured.

Regarding this case, Judge Lee Gwang Heon stated the reason for his sentencing and that the seriousness of his pre-planned sexual crimes was grave.

The defendant has committed systematic and repetitive planned sexual crimes against an unspecified number of female victims in public women’s restrooms, and the seriousness and nature of the crimes are extremely grave and represensible. Considering the significant psychological damage inflicted upon the victims due to the defendant’s various crimes, a comprehensive consideration of these factors has led to the sentencing.

There was a similar case in March of last year when a man in his 20s was accused of secretly recording a woman’s private moment while using a co-ed public bathroom. The victim testified that about one-third of a cellphone camera lens protruded from the men’s side to the women’s stall. However, the court acquitted him due to the lack of video or photo evidence. The prosecution has appealed the verdict of the first trial.
