How Jeon Somi Really Feels About Her “Barbie Of K-Pop” Nickname

Jeon Somi has been known for her fun personality, talent, and gorgeous visuals since she placed first on the idol survival program Produce 101 and debuted with the winning line-up that formed I.O.I.

The talented now-soloist underwent a dramatic transformation when she bleached her hair blonde for her “DUMB DUMB” promotions in 2021.

Somi had previously shared that she was against the idea of going blonde for fear of appearing “too much like a foreigner.”

I had this thought where I would rather die than have blond hair but the fans wanted it and I wanted to show a new side of me as this comeback was the first in a year, so I ended up going through this transformation.

Somi effortlessly rocks any hair color or style and has maintained her gorgeous blonde locks ever since.

The talented soloist was already known as a doll-like beauty, and the newer blonde hair earned her the nickname “the Barbie of K-Pop,” or “Korea’s Barbie.”

Recently, Somi met the “IRL Barbie” herself, Australian actress Margot Robbie, who played the famed Mattel doll in the popular new Greta Gerwig film.

Jeon Somi interviewed Robbie and American actress America Ferrera for their film when they were promoting Barbie in Korea.

In a recent interview with actor Woo Jae Woo for his YouTube variety show, Somi opened up about the iconic moment and how she felt about her “Korea’s Barbie” nickname.

Somi revealed that she’s grateful but a “bit shy” about the nickname, and although she interviewed Margot Robbie and America Ferrera, she couldn’t bring herself to mention her nickname to them.

Despite feeling shy about it, she ultimately enjoys her “Barbie” title!
