Starship Entertainment Gets Greenlight From U.S. Judicial Court To Go After Notorious YouTube Troll

Starship Entertainment revealed an update on their ongoing lawsuit against infamous YouTuber Sojang.

On July 25, Starship Entertainment released a lengthy statement in which they addressed the lawsuit. According to the statement, the label has pressed both criminal and civil lawsuits against the YouTuber for spreading libel and defamation.

In an unprecedented step, the label revealed that it had pursued and successfully obtained a court order from a California court in the United States instructing Google, which is famous for keeping its users’ information private, to hand over information related to Sojang’s account user. Unfortunately, the label then revealed that around that time, the YouTuber had deleted her account.

We received a court order from the U.S. District Court for The Northern District of California in May 2023 and received information from GOOGLE headquarters in the U.S. regarding the owner of Sojang’s account in July 2023. However, around that time, Sojang deleted her account after claiming she had been hacked.

The revelation is significant because, previously, social media accounts based outside of Korea were thought to be safe from persecution for defamation. This, however, might no longer be the case.

In their statement, Starship Entertainment continued further stating that they would continue to pursue Sojang and bring the account’s users to justice.

It is well known that Sojang has continuously spewed misinformation and committed serious defamation against our artists. Starship will hold them accountable and will ask Sojang and similar channels to take responsibility.

Sojang is a notorious internet troll who has been active on various social media platforms and internet communities since K-Pop’s first generation. One media outlet reported that they believed the user to be a woman in her mid-40s.

Starship Entertainment first announced that they would be seeking legal action against the account in 2019. Since then, the account has continuously uploaded misinformation and alleged baseless rumors about Jang Wonyoung, such as claiming she wasn’t on good terms with her members.
