Concerning Video Surfaces From Stray Kids’ Fansign Event—STAYs Express Outrage

STAYs are again urging JYP Entertainment for stronger security measures after a video of Stray Kids after their recent fansign event in China showed an alleged attempt to harm the members with a laser pointer.

Last month, an account on the Chinese social media platform Weibo earned attention and backlash for their concerning posts and manipulated images threatening the safety of Stray Kids’ Felix while making concerning statements and spreading misinformation about Hyunjin.

Posts on the account specifically threatened to point laser pointers at Stray Kids’ Felix and other members “nominated” by user comments, which can cause permanent vision loss within seconds.

These posts came before Stray Kids’ first offline fansign event in China and included hashtags for the event.

Concerns arose that the owner of the account, and those who liked the posts, would attend the fansign event with malicious intentions, which was held in Qingdao on July 16.

With the threatening Weibo posts gaining thousands of likes, STAYs alerted JYP Entertainment of the account and called on the company to increase security measures for Stray Kids.

Despite STAYs raising concerns, a video taken after the event appeared to show a laser pointer being pointed at Felix and Bang Chan as they prepared to enter their vehicle.

In the video, fans are calling Bang Chan’s name, who had been interacting with fans, before they began screaming Felix’s name as Stray Kids’ team closed in on the members and a green beam of light flashed around them.

STAYs expressed their frustration at JYP Entertainment, with many feeling that adequate safety measures were not in place despite the warnings and emails sent to the company.

STAYs are calling for JYP Entertainment to take legal action against those threatening the Stray Kids members and are calling for the company to better protect the members.

At this time, JYP Entertainment has not commented on the growing concerns from STAYs or the video.
