DSP Media’s Upcoming Girl Group Name Has Netizens Baffled With Its Almost-NSFW Pronunciation

DSP Media, now a subsidiary of RBW, recently announced the name of its upcoming girl group, and netizens are confused, to say the least.

DSP Media is home to K-Pop artists like KARD and MIRAE. In June 2023, the label officially teamed up with BEATS Entertainment and announced their plan to launch a five-member girl group in the second half of the year. BEATS Entertainment had already registered trademarks for the name “YOUNG POSSE” back in 2022, a year after holding auditions for an upcoming girl group. So, after the announcement of their collaboration with DSP, speculations began about whether this new quintet might be called “YOUNG POSSE.”

On July 1, RBW announced that DSP Media’s new girl group will appear as guests at the company’s first family concert, RBW 2023 Summer Fes-Over The Rainbow-Seoul, on July 16. The tweet also confirmed that this group is named YOUNG POSSE. But a specific aspect of this name has got netizens baffled.

The tweet from RBW wrote YOUNG POSSE’s name in the Korean alphabet as “영파씨,” which is pronounced as “Young Pa-ssi,” a little different from the standard pronunciation of the word “posse.” While some netizens are cracking jokes about the name sounding similar to the Korean word for onion (Yangpa), most seemed preoccupied with the concern that a slight mispronunciation of the name might make it sound like “Young p*ssy.”
