Netizens Have Mixed Feelings About NewJeans’ Stylist After The Recent Fanmeeting

NewJeans recently held their first ever fanmeeting, Bunnies Camp. The fanmeeting was a huge hit, with the surprise release of their new song, “ETA.”

On the other hand, some fans were critical of the outfits given to the girls. One particular post calling out the stylist for their “lack of sincerity” soon went viral on a community site.

The girls were dressed in a couple of outfits for the whole show. The first was a stylish uniform.

They also wore sporty suits inspired by physical education uniforms.

The outfits were comfortable and loose.

The girls were also given unique butterfly wings with straps inspired by backpacks. Rather than light and airy wings, the normcore wings were trendy, befitting NewJeans’ concept.

The outfit set that received the most backlash was the one for “Hype Boy.” Many felt that “Hype Boy” best suits fun, summery clothing. The girls were dressed in darker colors instead.

Netizens were on the fence about the outfits. Some defended the stylist, realizing that it wasn’t a matter of “lack of sincerity,” but simply a more unique styling. Others hoped that NewJeans would dress less experimentally and more “idol-like.”

• I think it’s because they have to change quickly in a short time, and because they have to dance hard. They will be dressed well again when it comes to music shows, so don’t worry.
• I thought it was cute when I watched the video.
• When their outfits are pretty, they really are, but sometimes they’re so hard to get. It’s not a matter of lacking sincerity but just hard to understand. Back when they were promoting “Hype Boy,” didn’t everyone get confused at the outfits from the second half of promotions?
• Their hair and makeup are getting better recently, so it’s just the stylist that needs to do well.
• I don’t know about insincere, but more like they’re so sincere in dressing them weirdly. I’ve seen lots of stylists mess up while trying to dress the idols uniquely.
• Rather than the clothes, I hope that they get cleaner hairstyles. I hate how they always give them hairstyles that are Japanese-inspired, or with those long feeler bangs, or all frizzy.
• They’re dressed so simply because they’re young. They can’t wear these anymore when they get older.
