The 2nd Generation K-Pop Idol Who Was Scammed 10 Times

Scams come in a variety of forms: phishing, investment, identity theft, romance, crime, cybercrime, and the list goes on. Scams can approach anyone, and a second-generation K-Pop idol admitted that he was a victim of scams—ten times.

On SBS Power FM‘s radio 2 o’clock Escape Cultwo Show, which aired on June 23, comedian Kwak Beom, singer Hwang Bo, and INFINITE‘s Jang Dongwoo appeared on the program’s segment called “Stop doing that!” During the broadcast, DJ Kim Tae Gyun asked them, “Is there anything that fans tell you to stop doing?”

Jang Dongwoo shared that fans ask him to keep his mouth shut—but it’s not because he talks too much.

They tell me to keep my mouth shut. When I concentrate on something, my mouth tends to open. And then I start drooling. I’ve been photographed a few times… It’s all a life lesson that helps me.

The INFINITE singer then revealed that he tends to trust people easily to the point where fans tell him not to do so.

They also tell me to not trust people easily… I was swindled about ten times; seven times by a car scam and three times by a business scam.

He described the details of the car scam, revealing that the scammer seemed legitimate, and he saw and tested the car himself.

They even had an employee ID. I went there myself, started the car, and ran a test drive. I even received a safe driving record sheet or something like that and when everything was set, I sent them about two bills as a down payment. But I couldn’t get in touch with them the next day. I was introduced to them through an acquaintance of a friend’s acquaintance. When I called them, they said no one had that last name.

When Hwang Bo asked if he had reported this incident, Jang Dongwoo said he tried, but the lawyer said it was unlikely to catch the scammer. The four discussed how lawyer fees might exceed the money he lost and that it would take too long.

Jang Dongwoo being a victim of scamming, is known by many K-Pop fans. In fact, he was voted second in the ranking for K-Pop idols who were scammed the most.
