CLC Sorn’s Agency Responds To Backlash Following Controversial Photoshoot

CLC Sorn‘s agency has issued a statement responding to the backlash.
Sorn graced the shoot donning high-end Versace, striking sensual poses next to a scantily-clad male model. Her hair, however, set off alarm bells among fans on social media. As part of the styling, the CLC star’s hair was permed into very tight ringlet curls. The texture, known as “3C”, is most commonly found in black people with afro hair.
Following the waves of criticism, Harper’s BAZAAR Singapore subsequently removed the offending photos from their website. WILD, Sorn’s agency, also issued a statement on Twitter, acknowledging and apologizing for the oversight:
We hear and understand the concerns raised regarding the recent editorial shoot with Harper’s BAZAAR Singapore, we are currently prioritizing and protecting our artist’s well-being. While the styling of the shoot was solely under the jurisdiction of the publication, we deeply apologize for our own oversight, and for the offense we may have caused. We are working hard to rectify the situation.

Rather than quelling the storm, WILD’s apology has only ignited further criticism from fans. Some fans commented that the company is “clearly out of their depth with absolutely everything they do” and “unprofessional.” Others referred to the apology as “PR garbage,” with a fan pointing out that the statement “says a lot but nothing” at the same time.
I need this company to quickly realise that they are clearly out of their depth with absolutely everything they do. You do not promote your artists and you clearly do not have the resources/the right people to manage the artists. We've had enough

a statement written on instastory saying a lot but nothing and not even bothering to mention the artists name. Amazing https://t.co/9e8zdGjhu6

This isn’t the first time the Thai-born idol has faced accusations of racial insensitivity. In late 2019, Sorn shared an image on her social media that included a friend wearing a racially insensitive mask.
After immediate criticism, she deleted the post but seemingly dismissed the concerns of fans in a follow-up Instagram Story where she wrote, “Sometimes some ppl just gotta chill, I’m not stupid.” This comment stirred further backlash, catapulting Sorn’s name to the top of Twitter’s worldwide trending topics as fans expressed their disappointment.

In response to the 2019 controversy, Sorn issued an apology.
I sincerely apologize for my actions. Specifically, I am sorry for being culturally insensitive, and in no way was I trying to intentionally offend anyone. In hindsight, I am realizing how this photo could have offended others. I am genuinely sorry and will reflect upon my mistakes.

The controversy and subsequent responses highlight the ongoing debate within the K-Pop industry and broader entertainment sectors about the thin line between cultural appreciation and appropriation. As conversations continue, one thing remains clear: fans demand accountability, not just apologies.
