For the 2016 thriller film Missing You, actor Kim Sung Oh made headlines for losing 16 kg (35 lbs.) in a single month. It ended up causing a near-death experience he hadn’t expected.

Kim Sung Oh confirmed it was true. Before shooting the scene, he remembered telling Shim Eun Kyung to use all her power to strangle him because she was “a lot younger” and didn’t have as much strength. There was one problem.
‘Even if you really, really kill me, I won’t die. You can’t beat my power! All I have to do is block it, so just do as much as you can! Don’t worry. You can’t kill me!’ I just talked like that.

Kim Sung Oh forgot how weak he’d become from losing weight. So when Shim Eun Kyung strangled the little bit of strength out of him, Kim Sung Oh quickly realized something was wrong but had already reached the point of passing out. Although they laughed about it, actress Kim Tae Hee pointed out how serious it was, “He almost died, really.”
