The 4 Girl Group Idols Foreigners Want To Look Like Most, Revealed By Korean Plastic Surgeons

While many fans have often wished they could be as gorgeous as their idols, some people take things a step further by opting for plastic surgery. And, it’s not just Koreans who want the K-Pop star look — these days, patients from across Asia (and even further afield) are heading to Seoul surgeons with photos of idols in hand.
In the past, faces like Red Velvet‘s Irene and Girls’ Generation‘s YoonA were popular requests in plastic surgery clinics, but who do today’s foreign patients want to look like most? Dr. Lee Kyung Min and Dr. Lee Moon Ki of Gangnam clinic ID Hospital recently took to YouTube to talk about the beauty ideals their non-Korean clientele request the most today.

There are so many countries represented in the current K-Pop landscape, from Vietnam to Australia to Senegal, and Dr. Lee Kyung Min says this change is reflected in beauty standards too.

With this change, gone are the days when plastic surgery patients craved one standard beauty ideal. “Nowadays, there isn’t a specific standard,” observes Dr. Lee Kyung Min, “but rather a preference for members who maximize their own unique charms.”
For Southeast Asian women who visit ID Hospital, Dr. Lee Moon Ki says those idols are none other than BLACKPINK‘s Jennie and Lisa.
| @jennierubyjane/InstagramSo, what makes these two stars so popular with patients from countries like the Philippines and Indonesia?
When it comes to Jennie, it’s not just about a specific facial feature. As Dr. Lee Kyung Min puts it, “It’s more about having facial features that complement each other well.” He pointed out her “short face type,” which complements her other features.
| @jennierubyjane/InstagramEchoing his colleague’s thoughts, Dr. Lee Moon Ki added that Jennie’s charm lies in how her eyes and nose match current trends. “She has semi-outlined eyes that are not too thick, and she has charming eyes where three white [areas] are visible. Her nose is not too long, not overly large and the tip is emphasized.”
| @jennierubyjane/InstagramMeanwhile, Lisa captivates with her balance of distinct Southeast Asian characteristics and a slightly “Westernized” look. Dr. Lee Moon Ki says that “Lisa has a baby face shape and has big eyes,” adding that, “her face is short, giving off a cute impression.”
| @lalalalisa_m/InstagramThe pair went on to say that Lisa’s nose has a uniquely glamorous appearance, which contributes to her perception as an ideal beauty.
| @lalalalisa_m/InstagramAs for patients from Japan and China, the ID Hospital doctors say the two girl group stars with the most-requested looks are (G)I-DLE‘s Miyeon and Shuhua.
| @noodle.zip/InstagramIn fact, Miyeon is also a popular pick for patients from the Middle East and western countries, according to Dr. Lee Moon Ki.
While Miyeon is all-around gorgeous, the surgeons say it’s her nose that has her visuals so sought-after. Since our noses are vital for our respiratory health, Dr. Lee Moon Ki says patients with larger or humped noses are no longer looking to reduce their nose size too much. “Instead of reducing a large nose excessively,” he explains, “many prefer a natural and feminine transformation, similar to Miyeon’s nose.”
| @noodle.zip/InstagramAs for Shuhua, the (G)I-DLE maknae is admired for her distinctive eyes. Dr. Lee Moon Ki went on to explain that Shuhua has “cute, slightly puppy-like eyes,” and that many Japanese and Chinese patients who want a sharp but cute eye look bring photos of Shuhua to their clinic.
| @yeh.shaa_/InstagramOf course, as gorgeous as all these stars’ features are, their faces are uniquely theirs — posing difficult challenges to surgeons like those at ID Hospital. “Faces like Lisa’s or Jennie’s can easily look awkward or different if there is even a slight change in the arrangement or facial proportions,” says Dr. Lee Kyung Min, so it’s hard to give patients the same look. The pair have naturally well-balanced features that work in perfect harmony together, and that’s not easy to replicate on someone else.
| @jennierubyjane/InstagramDr. Lee Moon Ki agreed with an amusing recount of how some patients have requested slightly asymmetric eyes like Jennie’s. His advice? The doctor says with a laugh, “They should simply open their eyes less if they want that effect.”
