Director Of Netflix K-Drama “Bloodhounds” Admits Why He Didn’t Edit Out Actress Kim Sae Ron’s Parts Despite Her DUI Controversy

 

A new K-Drama is coming to Netflix: Bloodhounds. In a press conference for the new show, director Kim Joo Hwan revealed why he did not edit out actress Kim Sae Ron‘s parts despite her DUI scandal.

On June 7, Bloodhounds held its press conference in Mapo-gu, Seoul, and the actors and the director attended to speak about the show. In April, actress Kim Sae Ron made headlines when it was revealed that she would star in Bloodhounds despite being heavily criticized for her DUI conviction.

There were rumors that actress Jung Dae Eun would replace her, but that proved untrue when the final cast list for Bloodhounds was released. The cast included actors Woo Do Hwan, Lee Sang Yi, Park Sung Woong, and Huh Joon Ho.

While Bloodhounds was nearing the end of its filming last May, Kim Sae Ron was indicted for driving under the influence, crashing into a transformer box, and causing electricity to be cut off in 57 nearby stores and homes. It was reported that Kim Sae Ron’s blood alcohol level was at 0.2%, more than six times Korea’s legal limit of 0.03%. In April, she was fined ₩20.0 million KRW (about $15,300 USD).

During the Bloodhounds press conference, director Kim Joo Hwan shared why he could not wholly remove Kim Sae Ron from the K-Drama. He shared that after much consideration, he decided to leave only the minimum amount of her parts; because her role was the central character of the incident and they had already finished most of the filming, he couldn’t cut all her parts out.

We really tried to minimize any discomfort for our viewers. With the thought that the efforts of numerous individuals should not go to waste, we did our best to minimize the length of Kim Sae Ron’s role while maximizing the overall quality of the show in order to enhance its completeness.

Meanwhile, Bloodhounds is about two young men caught up in the world of private loan business, where money comes before human life, fighting for their lives against vast forces of evil. It will be released on Netflix on June 9 KST.
