The Positive And Negative Parts About Acting In HBO’s “The Idol,” According To BLACKPINK’s Jennie
본문
BLACKPINK‘s Jennie is making her acting debut in a major way. She is starring in HBO‘s The Idol which received its own premier at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
In interviews with Women’s Wear Daily and The Hollywood Reporter, she talked about the pros and cons about working on this series. Check them out below.
The Bad
1. The Acting
To begin with the negative, Jennie found it challenging to turn to acting. She is used to the world of singing as an A-list K-Pop idol, but being part of The Idol was her first true job as an actress.
It definitely was a challenge, because I’ve never experienced anything like that before. It was like breaking a wall for me
— Jennie
The Good
2. The Director
There were definitely more positives to the project. For one, Jennie was able to work with someone she looks up to. Sam Levinson, the mind behind famous TV show Euphoria, is the person currently heading the show. She was happy to trust him with directing her scenes especially since he understood the story’s connection to her own life as world famous celebrity.
I trusted Sam to be collaborative with all the scenes that we would be working on together, because it was about the industry.
— Jennie
3. The Cast
Another great aspect about The Idol was working with Lily Rose-Depp. Jennie shared that although acting was challenging, having the fellow CHANEL ambassador by her side made things more comfortable.
[Rose-Depp] really helped me a lot, Telling me about scenes, and it was very comforting to have her there. She just taught me to express myself and be comfortable with myself, to not be scared.
— Jennie
4. The Role
Finally, the role itself was one that she was excited to embody. Just like the title of the show, Jennie is an idol who knows the ins and outs of stardom, making it an interesting character to play.
[Playing Dyanne is] an opportunity to just be myself and be brave. I didn’t really train for it, or prep anything. Sam wanted me to just be myself…I thought I could bring something to the role.
