LE SSERAFIM’s Sakura And Yunjin Tear Up As They Admit They Doubted Their Decision To Debut—Here’s Why

The life of a K-Pop idol isn’t easy. One has to pass auditions, compete with other trainees for the slim chance to debut, and undergo a rigorous schedule. Even when they do debut, their job is both mentally and physically taxing, taking a toll on their health.
This may be why in Episode 3 of their documentary, LE SSERAFIM‘s Sakura and Yunjin opened up about why they’ve questioned their choice to debut.
Sakura admitted that there are times when she feels lonely because of how she hasn’t been able to see her fans. This has caused her to doubt that people are still interested in her and want to see her. She even wrote in her journal that her wish is for anyone to like her.
More than anything, she wants to be happy and not regret her decision to become a singer.
I wrote that I feel somewhat lonely. Even though it’s been the same now as back then, it’s been so long since I’d seen the fans. I sometimes thought, ‘Would anyone like me anymore?‘ I wrote that I wanted someone, anyone, to like me. I want to be happy and not regret this path I’ve taken. I want to think I did a good job.

Sakura’s thoughts shifted to fellow member Yunjin whose K-Pop journey was one of the most difficult ones out there. In her perspective, she could see that Yunjin was pressured to do well because of all that she had been through.
It made her stop and reflect, wondering if making their debut would even make them happy at the end of the day.
That’s what I felt when I first saw Yunjin. She’s been through a lot. She must want to do well. We really lived for this debut. I think she has that pressure. And this is something I also think about, but would debuting make us happy?

The camera then cut to Yunjin whose line of thoughts was almost the same as Sakura’s. She opened up about how she asks herself if she would have been happier if she had led a normal life away from the stage. If she had gone to college instead of training to be a K-Pop idol, would she have been freer? That is the type of question she frequently wonders about.
I always ask myself this. If I had never become a trainee in the first place, stayed in school, lived normally, and went to college, would I have been happier? Wouldn’t I have been freer that way? I think about that a lot.

Tearing up, Yunjin confessed that she actually did have a taste of that kind of life. That may be precisely why making the decision to give it up was extremely painful.
After being able to kind of experience what I could have done and then deciding to let that go, it was actually really hard.

Yunjin and Sakura’s journeys in the industry must have been difficult, so it is understandable why they wonder if they’d be happier doing something else. Fans, however, may tell them that they are glad they debuted in LE SSERAFIM and are honored to be getting to know them.
