Fourth Generation K-Pop Boy Groups Aren’t Popular With The General Public, According To Netizens

Over the last couple of years — and 2022 especially — new K-Pop girl groups have been taking the industry by storm, earning tons of streams and ranking high on music charts.
Groups like IVE, LE SSERAFIM, aespa, NewJeans, NMIXX, and many others have achieved a lot in their short careers, with a lot of praise coming especially from the Korean general public.
For the most part, however, fourth generation K-Pop boy groups haven’t seen the same success among the general public in South Korea. Though several come from big labels and release great music, there hasn’t been any one or couple in particular that have really taken off on Korean music charts, at least compared to fourth generation girl groups.
In fact, fans recently noticed that out of the top 10 most-streamed K-Pop boy group songs of 2022 on MelOn, none of them come from fourth generation boy groups…
While as for the top 10 most streamed 2022 songs by girl groups, the majority of them are by fourth generation artists.
This doesn’t mean that fourth generation K-Pop boy groups aren’t successful at all, though. If you look at other music streaming apps — especially those that are more popular among international fans, such as Spotify — the success of fourth generation K-Pop boy groups is more apparent.
On a Korean forum post discussing the difference between fourth generation boy group and girl group popularity among the Korean general public, here are what some netizens have to say about the matter.

Considering that several K-Pop boy groups that debuted in 2018 or later are million album sellers, it’s hard to actually agree that none of them are popular, at least among international audiences!
