5 Times K-Pop Idols Got Seriously Injured During Award Shows

While K-Pop award shows are usually a time of celebration, there have been multiple heartbreaking instances when idols got seriously injured during them. Here’s a list of a few of these moments.

1. Red Velvet Wendy’s stage accident at SBS Gayo Daejeon rehearsals

In 2019, Wendy suffered a broken pelvis, wrist, and facial injuries after she fell off a stage during rehearsals for SBS‘s Gayo Daejeon. This accident occurred when Wendy was doing sound rehearsals and went up the stairs to the 2nd-floor tunnel as instructed in the script.

When Wendy got ready to walk down the stairs, the lift stairs did not arrive in time, which caused her to lose her balance and fall down the stairs.

A staff member at the show explained how the stairs were not properly prepared for the rehearsals, and that Wendy wouldn’t have gotten hurt if the area was better prepared.

The 2nd-floor tunnel was dark and narrow. The lift stairs weren’t ready either. Red Velvet’s Wendy rehearsed in that environment. If they at least put marking tape on the specified areas, she wouldn’t have fallen.

SBS ended up releasing an apology to Wendy after the incident.

2. Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon falling during the Seoul Music Awards

During the 2014 Seoul Music Awards, one of the stage elevator platforms collapsed during Girl’s Generation-TTS‘s performance. This ended up causing Taeyeon to fall into the basement, and she was immediately rushed to the hospital.

Thankfully, Taeyeon suffered no major injuries.

3. BTS’s Jungkook injuring his leg during the 2016 MAMA

During the 2016 MAMA, Jungkook had a stunt where he was seen hanging from the ceiling with wires. Jungkook ended up hanging from the wires for nearly a whole minute!

While this was mesmerizing for fans, Jungkook ended up injuring his leg due to this stunt. After the award show ended, Jungkook was unable to walk on his own.

4. GFRIEND’s Sowon hurting her ankle at the 31st Golden Disk Awards

At the 31st Golden Disk Awards, Sowon injured her ankle after she slipped during GFRIEND’s performance of “Navillera”. Despite this, Sowon continued performing.

After GFRIEND’s performance, Sowon was seen limping, which broke the hearts of fans.

5. Dal Shabet Subin’s injury during the Bugok Hawaii Summer Festival

While this didn’t happen at an award show, Subin ended up getting seriously injured during the Bugok Hawaii Summer Festival in 2011. While performing, Subin fell and smashed her face into one of the metal pyrotechnic outlets. After this, Subin was rushed to the hospital, where she had to get 16 stitches on her lips and face.
