This diversity has recently been seen as the group gears up to release their 11th mini-album BETWEEN 1&2. JYP Entertainment has been treating ONCEs to teasers and concept photos showing a more mature side to the members.
Yet, in the individual concept photos, two of the members have gained mixed reactions to their looks, and they are Mina and Chaeyoung.
Unlike the rest of the members, Mina and Chaeyoung’s solo concept photos are full-body shots.
In Chaeyoung’s photo, the idol looks stunning in a two-piece look which she has teamed with an oversized blazer. In particular, the addition of a sheer garter showcased the idol’s maturity and allowed her to showcase a more sexy and dark side.
Similarly, Mina’s look showed off the idol’s more mature side and netizens couldn’t get enough of the ensemble.
Like Chaeyoung, Mina is dressed in a black two-piece outfit, and it is made even more dynamic with the accessories, including knee-high boots and what seems like a harness-style belt.
When the images were shared, the internet immediately went into meltdown. They were loving the more mature look from the members and couldn’t get over the unique styling of both Mina and Chaeyoung.

Yet, although international netizens have had nothing but praise for the mature concept, Korean netizens have had more mixed opinions on the outfits, especially when it came to Mina and Chaeyoung. For many, they were shocked by the more “Mature” and sexy outfits.
- I think there would be controversy over the garter belt regardless of who wore it.
- WTF is wrong with their outfits?
- I think the garter belt is too much.
Yet, like international fans, a few Korean netizens seemed to understand both sides of the argument. Some explained that although it was a shocking look for the members, it suited them and was appropriate as all of the members are adults and should be allowed to grow as artists and showcase new sides to them.
- I think because of TWICE’s existing image, it is a very bold choice, but I like it because it is a new concept, lol. I would like them to try new concepts.
- I was a little surprised, but who cares they are adults. They look pretty.
It isn’t the first time netizens have raised concerns about the “sexiness” of female idol groups. After the release of the teasers for BLACKPINK‘s album Pink Venom, netizens had the same concerns about the sexiness of the looks.

Although some of the reactions seem quite extreme, it isn’t surprising considering that Korean society is still quite traditional in its views when it comes to clothing. It means that fans have conflicting views on looks. However, as adults, it seems natural for the TWICE members to try more daring looks if they are comfortable.
