“Rolling Stone” Journalist Shares Her Experience Meeting BLACKPINK’s Jennie, And It Showcases The Idol’s True Personality

Ever since BLACKPINK debuted back in 2016, the members have been in the public eye. They’ve been praised whenever they succeed and subjected to criticism over the smallest things.
In particular, over the years, Jennie has earned the title “Ice Princess.” Although many BLINKs use it to praise the idol’s elegant and sharp features, others have used it negatively to try and portray Jennie’s personality as cold and rude.
Yet, this couldn’t be further from the truth and although BLINKs know the idol’s true personality, a reporter has gained attention after spilling their experiences of meeting the idol.
Last month, Jennie and the rest of the BLACKPINK members appeared in editorials for Rolling Stone and, as expected, the idol looked flawless in the photoshoot.
Aside from her beautiful visuals, it seems as if Jennie caught the eye of the reporter for her equally attractive personality. In a recent Instagram post, Haeryun Kang spilled what it was like meeting Jennie and showcased another side to the idol.
In the post, the journalist joked that when they first met, the first thing that stood out was that Jennie is a bit of a “nerd.”
The funniest discovery about Jennie…she’s a bit of a nerd! She told me in detail about her two-tier note-taking system while going to school in New Zealand — an experience that she says is one of the happiest memories of her life.

Like any other person, Haeryun shared their experience of how surreal it was meeting Jennie in real life, especially as the idol is someone they see in advertisements at their apartment. Rather than superstar Jennie, the journalist got to see the real Jennie at YG Entertainment with her flawless natural beauty.
These days I see Jennie almost every day in my apartment elevator, where she’s advertising furniture inside a tiny screen. So it was strange to meet her in the basement of YG, without all the makeup and lighting superimposed on Jennie the superstar.

During the interview, Jennie chatted about the misconceptions about her that netizens and the press like to focus on, such as her coldness. When Haeryun honestly shared her thoughts about Jennie that she had before the meeting, the idol responded to them politely.
We sat alone inside an empty dance studio, where I told her about my impressions of her, some of which she confirmed, others contradicted. We talked about impressions in general, especially the misperceptions that orbit fame like air.

Even though some of the topics spoken about were serious, Haeryun also revealed that they bonded over their similarities when it came to living at home. Jennie also showcased her more vulnerable side when discussing the hardships she’s suffered as an idol.
We laughed about living with parents (or not being able to), and became more quiet when she talked about her immune system breaking down during a world tour.

When the post was shared, netizens loved to see others gushing about Jennie and showcasing that she is more than just the person seen on stage. Haeryun’s post showed off new sides to the idol and made BLINKs love her even more.
Whereas some media and haters still like to label Jennie with those terms, BLINKs know differently, understanding that although the idol is shy, she is also a ray of sunshine. Whether she is on stage or hanging out with friends, Jennie can put a smile on everyone’s face.
It is always refreshing to see journalists have their minds changed about idols. Jennie might sometimes seem cold but she is truly one of the sweetest people who is just misunderstood.
