BTS’s V Confirms He’s Working On His Solo Album And Opens Up About His Concerns

BTS are currently taking some time to prioritize solo schedules, and ARMY couldn’t be more excited. J-Hope is the first member to release his solo album, Jack In The Box, on July 15th. The talented idol is also headlining Lollapalooza, which gives fans even more content to look forward to.
Of course, ARMY are excited for all of BTS to release solo music and V‘s long-awaited mixtape, dubbed KTH1, is no exception. The idol has continually teased fans by talking about the songs he’s been working on, only to confess that he has deleted them.

In a recent interview with Weverse magazine, V talked about his solo image, which interviewer Myungseok Kang believes started to develop after V released the K-Drama OSTs “Blue & Grey” and “Christmas Tree.”
I think people already embrace your brand of freedom to some degree. The way people viewed your music changed after ‘Blue & Grey’ and ‘Christmas Tree.’ And I feel like people understand the image you’re trying to project, considering the particular type of scenes on TV that those two songs often appear in.

But V believes that he hasn’t actually decided on a single brand for his music, wanting to be able to release different songs before he starts to identify the direction of his music.
I’m not sure what people think of my songs because I can’t be there with them. I can’t see it with my own eyes. I’ll just have to try making more solo songs to find out. I think that way I can know for sure what lies ahead based on what direction my sound is taking and the stance it should take.

Although fans might be disappointed when V deletes a track he’s been working on, the idol’s strict criteria for his music is something V believes will enable him to live as an artist proud of his work. He tries to be objective when listening to his music, not wanting to experience any regrets.
I feel like I want to be as objective as I can be with myself when it comes to the songs I make. If I feel regret whenever that happens, I’ll become one of those people who just release songs even when they’re not satisfied with them. And then I wouldn’t be able to complete an album of my songs the way I envision it.

In a recent vlog, V reveals that he has been struggling with releasing his own music for four years, but given BTS’s new focus on solo ventures he is diligently working on learning everything he can.
For the past four years I’ve been hesitant and indecisive and now I’m finally doing it so I want to produce everything since I have the opportunity and I’m talking with a lot of directors too. So I’m studying and working hard so ARMY could think it’s really high quality.

Although he is learning everything he can, V admits that his indecisiveness is only furthered by the different music styles he wants to try. ARMY may want to watch the eight music videos he had ideas for, but for V to achieve a quality he can be proud of, he has to narrow his focus.
I have so many things I want to try. So many things. If I do everything on my list I have to shoot eight music videos. I was like ‘Huh? How did this happen?’ So I narrowed it down to that.

V’s goal in producing his first full solo album is to ensure that every track is enjoyable and that each song feels like it belongs on the tracklist. The idol wants to be proud of every song he releases, so, as he admitted in his Weverse interview, he doesn’t “become one of those people who just release songs even when they’re not satisfied with them.” And unfortunately, he hasn’t been able to achieve that yet.
I have this thing. When I listen to the whole album it has to be ‘Good, good, good. Ooh, that’s good. Whoa!’ I want that but I’ve always been missing that. ‘Why is this song here? Why is this suddenly here?’ I kept changing the track list because of that and couldn’t finish it.

V compares the album-making process to a game of Tetris, where all the pieces have to fit in perfectly to create a satisfying win. It is too easy to have one block in a place it doesn’t belong, which could, ultimately, cost you the whole game.
It never fits perfectly like a game of Tetris. I was always like ‘No, this isn’t it. I dont’ want to use this one’ and it kept getting put off.

But, as V has been diligently working on a solo album, he reassures ARMY by telling them that their time waiting will be worth it since he plans on showing off his many skills by exploring different genres of music.
This time the concept design is… I mean, there’s a lot more that I want to show now so I realized the album doesn’t need to be one genre. I decided to branch out and try new genres I’ve always wanted to try so I’m working on a lot of songs right now.
