The beauty standards in the K-Pop industry, especially for female idols, often seem to be impossible to reach. With so much photo editing and perfectly planned lighting used to remove and wash out any visible blemishes, it makes K-Pop idols seem like they have unattainable beauty. However, there are plenty of idols who deal with their own skin problems and struggle with their complexion, and there’s nothing to be ashamed of with that! In fact, seeing K-Pop idols with acne, scars, and other “flaws” can make them seem real and relatable. Here are 3 gorgeous female rookie idols who have visibly dealt with skin challenges.
1. Eunchae (LE SSERAFIM)
Eunchae, as the youngest member of LE SSERAFIM, quickly received praise for her fresh and youthful visuals when she was shown in teasers for the group’s debut. And she definitely deserves the compliments, because she’s beautiful!
In a pre-debut video interview with LE SSERAFIM’s members, however, some people pointed out that Eunchae’s skin wasn’t quite as glowing or radiant as they appeared in the heavily edited teasers, and that is completely normal.
The LE SSERAFIM maknae also got reactions from a stage performance which revealed that she seems to struggle with back acne. Again, this isn’t anything to be ashamed of — she’s only a teenager, after all, and pretty much all teens go through some skin difficulties at some point or another!
This is likely something she’ll grow out of with age, and she’ll just become even more beautiful than she already is!
2. Winter (aespa)
Winter drew attention for her visuals before aespa even debuted, and it’s easy to see why. She is absolutely gorgeous, and it’s no surprise that she became an official visual of the group as well!
Even a beauty like Winter isn’t immune to skin problems, though, and that’s okay! It was revealed during the red carpet at the 2021 MAMAs that the aespa member actually had visible acne on her face that wasn’t able to be completely covered by makeup due to the harsh lighting.
This issue was likely due to stress and constantly wearing makeup, which would be enough to harm anyone’s skin. Breakouts in those kinds of situations are totally normal, and nothing to shame Winter over!
3. Sakura (LE SSERAFIM)
It’s no surprise that Sakura was a visual member when she was in IZ*ONE, and though there are no official visual positions in LE SSERAFIM (because they could all take the position, to be honest), she still deserves the title. With her large, doe-like eyes, lean frame, and doll-like features, Sakura is an overall stunning girl.
However, even a beauty such as Sakura still has imperfections! In the same LE SSERAFIM pre-debut video mentioned earlier for Eunchae, some fans pointed out that Sakura has large under-eye bags and even slightly sunken cheekbones, which led people to worry that she was working too hard and had lost too much weight.
In another video posted on her personal YouTube channel, Sakura showed her bare face for a makeup tutorial. Without makeup, she still looks very pretty and youthful, though she also looks more real with her small blemishes showing.
However, fans praised her for her bravery to show her bare face on YouTube, and it really shows that she is a lovely person inside and out!
