BLACKPINK‘s Jennie proves that not everything before us is what it seems. In an interview with Rolling Stone, she brought home the point that her public persona is different from her private one.
According to Jennie, people view her as someone who embodies the girl crush concept.

In reality, she is very different. She has a softer, sweeter personality that is exemplified in her big smiles. Fans call her “Nini,” “Jendeukie,” and “Mandu” to refer to this bubblier side.

Jennie admitted to playing the role of the “aggressive” Jennie in front of the camera.
My actual personality isn’t like that, so BLACKPINK Jennie has become a character to me.

Following the release of her first solo song, “SOLO,” in 2018, her next comebacks will showcase more of her authentic self.
I’m looking forward to bringing my actual personality into music for my solo stuff later on. For example, I’m curious about what kind of vocals I’m capable of. [In the trainee days] I used to practice with R&B and more soulful songs. I like mellow, quiet music, too. I want to try a lot of different things.

Jennie isn’t the only one who has an on-stage personality that differs slightly from her real one. She mentioned that her fellow BLACKPINK members also have contrasting images before the camera and behind it.
We’re no different from the girls in our age group. Sure, there are times when we talk about what kind of influence we could have, what we should bring on our next comeback. But what we actually love is talking about our cats, dogs, good food, and pretty places.
