The K-Pop industry may be fun and entertaining, but it is not without its faults. LE SSERAFIM‘s Yunjin, a former contestant of Produce 48 and trainee of Pledis Entertainment, knows this better than most.

She addressed the need for a change in her debut teaser, where she confidently stated, “I want to change the idol industry.”
In a recent interview with Weverse Magazine, the “FEARLESS” singer elaborated on her words. She explained that it was something she said spontaneously as a result of her experiences. She had known for a while now that there are some things in K-Pop that need to change.
They asked me if there was anything I wanted to say and those were the things that naturally came out. I love music and dancing on stage and it makes me so happy, and I dreamed of becoming an idol because I wanted to work in Korea, but I started having certain feelings after being a trainee and having a chance to experience K-pop indirectly.

According to Yunjin, one such example is the strict standards that idols have to adhere to. She is aware that it is necessary to “behave” when being filmed, but she believes the extent they’re expected to follow is too much.
More than anything, she wants to be more open, not hiding behind the industry’s accepted limit.
Rather than following the strict standards for idols, I want to break them down one by one. Of course you have to behave in front of a camera, but I want to create the kind of environment where I can express myself a little more openly rather than have to conceal the real me when I’m on camera. Because I know myself better than anyone else.
