Jung Joon Young and Choi Jonghoon have received their final prison sentences for their gang rape crimes, with the Supreme Court of Korea dismissing their appeals.
At 10:10 am on September 24, Supreme Court second division chief justice Park Sang Ok ruled that the appeal filed by Jung Joon Young and Choi Jonghoon would be dismissed. The two originally filed an appeal against the ruling in the second trial, where Jung Joon Young was sentenced to five years in prison while Choi Jonghoon was sentenced to two years and six months in prison.
Back in November 2019, Jung Joon Young was originally sentenced to six years in prison and Choi Jonghoon was sentenced to five years in prison for their crimes violating the Act on Special Crimes of Violence. In addition, “Kwon”, the older brother of Girls’ Generation’s Yuri, was sentenced to four years in prison, “Kim”, Burning Sun MD, received five years, and “Heo”, an entertainment agency employee, received two years probation.
All five people filed appeals against the November ruling, and in the first appeal, Jung Joon Young’s sentence was reduced to five years, as while he was showing remorse, he was unable to reach a settlement with the victim. Choi Jonghoon’s sentence was reduced to two years and six months as he was able to reach a settlement with the victim, and so did “Kim”, dropping his sentence to four years. Both “Kwon” and “Heo” received the same sentence in the appeals trial.
