Japan’s Fuji TV announced that BTS would appear at their end of the year music program 2020 FNS Song Festival on December 2. The video posted revealed six of the members (excluding Suga who is recovering from shoulder surgery) announcing their appearance on the show.

The problem with this video clip was that J-Hope did not have a chance to speak at all while the other members spoke once or twice. In response to this, fans around the world posted messages online protesting that this was not the first time this broadcast has left out J-Hope.

Previously at the 2019 FNS Song Festival, the broadcast completely removed J-Hope’s part from their “FAKE LOVE” performance. At that time, J-Hope was on stage, but was not given the opportunity to show his voice or performance to the viewers.

In response to this incident, famous Japanese music critic Daniel Takeda, who is also a member of the American Recording Academy, took to Twitter to translate the protest messages left by BTS fans into Japanese to let fans know what was happening.

There are many English comments criticizing the show for deleting J-Hope’s remarks. I translated these messages to inform Japanese ARMY how BTS is being treated in Japan.

To ARMYs, he commented, “You are all trying to raise your voice for what is right and make people accountable. I respect you all.”

The messages that Takeda translated stated, “J-Hope’s performance was deleted last year, who deleted it this time? This is extremely rude to the artist. We need an explanation. This shows lack of professionalism. See one and know ten. Fans all over the world are watching everything. A lot of effort is required to gain trust.”

Fans are also protesting against Big Hit Entertainment because both the promotional and performance video for the FNS Song Festival was pre-filmed in Korea.
