IU recently came under fire for allegedly “queer-baiting” using her new single’s title. The single is titled “Love Wins,” and is a collaboration with BTS’s V.

Some had taken offense with the way she used a hetero love image while using a phrase highly linked with the LGBTQ+ community. It leaves room to imagination without stating any context.

In response, netizens have taken to defend IU, while also expressing their understanding for those affected by it.

IU often says that love wins over all. Do they not know that she’s trying to tell us that she doesn’t want it to be limited to hetero love? What do you mean hetero love can’t lose? I think it’s pretty narrow-minded to separate hetero and homosexuality.
Isn’t it a good opportunity for them to be recognized through this? How can they mock IU for this?
People are starting fights over nothing.
I think this is literally trying to pick a bone. I’m not a fan of IU or BTS, and I only knew that they were releasing a song through this post. The phrase “love wins” is fine. Isn’t it possible for me to hug my dog and say it? For us to say it to our parents? Just like the phrase means, I think it’s good for us to use it here and there.
But when I see the phrase, I think of LBGTQ+ immediately. So I understand those who are reasonably criticizing her.
I believe that the minority has the right to speak up that they are upset about this.
Too much LOL. Love is just love.
