TWICE’s Jihyo became a JYP Entertainment trainee in 2005 when she was only eight years old. She trained for ten years, making it one of the longest training periods for a K-Pop idol.

The TWICE leader admitted that her long road to debut led to frustration that contributed to Jihyo briefly running away as a trainee.

During the discussion with her parents, they revealed why Jihyo had a longer training period.

Jihyo revealed that when she first began her career in entertainment, the company intended to make her an actress.

On the path to becoming an actress, she thought she would only train for 2 or 3 years.

Jihyo’s fate changed when she was in 7th grade and JYP Entertainment founder J.Y. Park heard her sing. They together decided to renew Jihyo’s contract as a singer and set her on the path to becoming an idol.

Due to the change, more training was required for Jihyo, who was now focusing on singing and dancing.

Jihyo’s parents shared that in retrospect, it all turned out for the better as Jihyo was able to debut as TWICE’s leader and they will soon celebrate their 8th anniversary in October.
