In the statement, Min Hee Jin explained that she thought ILLIT “copied” NewJeans and what her reactions were to this, especially talking about HYBE’s claims about being the “leader of K-Pop.”

HYBE’s Bang Si Hyuk took part in the production of ILLIT’s debut album. ILLIT’s imitation of NewJeans was not carried out by BeLift Lab alone as a label, but is something that concerns HYBE as well. As a leading company in K-Pop, HYBE has been blinded by profits, and are copying successful cultural content without any hesitation. Rather than showing something new, they are simply producing banality…

…And ADOR has never allowed anyone, be it HYBE, BeLift Lab, or other labels, to copy NewJeans’ output.

— Min Hee Jin

While some fans understood Min Hee Jin’s possible anger at HYBE for “using” NewJeans’ concept with their own groups…

Some netizens felt very differently and couldn’t hide their anger about Min Hee Jin’s comments, stating that they didn’t see a resemblance between the two groups’ concepts and how unfair it was to “drag” ILLIT into the messy situation between the two companies.

While the issues surrounding Min Hee Jin and HYBE are a hot topic, it seems sad that two very young groups are being dragged into the situation.
